aBCibo Laboratory
The innovative project took place in Torino. The main objective was to integrate food and pedestrian areas to develop a project that would benefit the city. As a result we design ABCibo, a didactic laboratory for children of fifth grade where the product life cycle is explained to create awareness in the consumption decisions and the effect on the environment.
I worked in UX research and visual design of all elements of the laboratory. It was really exciting to create a link between sustainable activities and games for children.

User Research And Competitive Analysis
Initially the team researched two aspects: people’s behaviors and food trends. Firstly, we went to the main pedestrian areas to understand people’s behaviors during weekdays and weekends; it was challenging because we examined numerous places near universities, schools, residential and touristic areas.
Secondly, we investigated food trends in the city to find possible links between them and the pedestrian areas analyzed previously. We found five types of users and 13 possible places to create a workshop outdoors.
Insights
We identified gaps in the food chain industry, because people tend to focus only on sale and consumption when the reality is that the food chain is formed by five phases (production, transformation, sale, consumption and disposal). The research gave us an insight to create a critical mindset about the whole food chain in children attending elementary school.
We designed ABCibo laboratory as a format in Piazza Delpaino, but the model can be repeated in other different areas. The concept of the project is based on:
Human capital
Learning by doing
Conscious consumption
Give value to peripheral areas

From Findings To Features
The laboratory is structured in three classrooms and four weeks duration. Lessons and practical activities during the first three weeks are conducted in the different classrooms (one each week). The last week involves a community engagement festival to share results and lessons learnt.

Conclusion
Our laboratory focuses on sustainable practices, the importance of getting this knowledge at an early age and incorporating good environmental practices in children’s daily life. We found that the best way to teach a child is by playing and creating a joyful experience.
I really love working in this project because of the social impact in current and future generations.
